Last Sunday I went on a hunt for inspiration at the Rose Bowl flea market in Pasadena. To say that I “found some” would be quite the understatement. I wanted to share some of the 160+ images I took after trolling for hours around what was only a fraction of the vendors at this market. I have noticed a rising trend spanning multiple runway designers and retails stores lately, although I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it. Printed maxi dresses are fairly common but now we are seeing other ways of wearing head-to-toe print: rompers and tailored suits. Anytime I see a matching printed suit I can’t help but picture the fabulous elderly women I’ve seen at the grocery store, you know, the kind that wear leather driving gloves when they go into town. This week I’m pulling inspiration from the photography of a very dear friend of mine, Tiffany Upton. When her day job as a graphic designer isn’t enough, she turns to photography and floral design to satisfy her overflow of creativity. I was particularly mesmerized by the set below, some of which I immediately connected with the trend of print-mixing, which has been so prevalent on the runway this season. With the rise of digitally printed textiles I can easily picture the work of Miss Upton printed on silk scarves and flowing chiffon dresses. A fresh update to the floral frock.
