Here’s a transitional print concept that spills over from Fall 2014, but with a lighter, more springlike color palette. One part floral, one part Ukrainian embroidery, with a dash of fairytale whimsy thrown in for good measure, these prints bring a fresh, bohemian take on a trend your Grandmother would likely adore. To keep things really authentic, make sure to include references to traditional embellishment techniques such as cross-stitch or beading.

As both animal skins and novelty prints have been growing in popularity over the last few seasons, it makes perfect sense that butterflies would reemerge as a Resort print trend. Whether presented as small and cute, or enlarged and abstracted, the intricate and colorful patterns found inside of their wings can be stylized to work within a wide range of markets.

Animal prints continued to be a popular theme in many Resort collections, perhaps being used in even more adventurous ways than the previous Fall season. Stick to the basic skins [jungle cats, the occasional zebra] and update by using fun colors, or combining with pretty much any other type of print out there, with florals and baroque being among the most popular. Of course a classic skin is never a bad idea, either.

If you’re picking a destination for your 2013 Resort holiday, I highly suggest you follow the lead of these designers and take a trip back in time. Somewhere in the 60’s-70’s would be my choice. Vintage prints, colors and silhouettes are front and center in so many Resort collections that it had to be my first print report of the season. Below are a few of my favorite looks in this trend; I’m particularly loving the ones with bright, contrasting colors!
