We recently came across How Very Dare, a Brooklyn-based fashion label with a penchant for innovative, photo-centric digital prints. Their newest collection, Trash to Treasure, doesn’t officially launch until tomorrow, but we caught a sneak peek on Relapse Magazine’s blog and had to share. We are loving the kitschy imagery and carefully engineered mixing of prints, which underscore one of our favorite design mantras: More is More.

For more news and info about How Very Dare, check out their website, or follow them on Facebook and Twitter. If you’re anywhere near Brooklyn, be sure to check out the collection in person this weekend at their pop up shop at Alter.

We love a good photo-based placement print here at Aaryn West, so we were excited to see several great examples on the runway featuring scenic nature views. This season we’re seeing the trend lean slightly away from realism and more toward fine art in some way. They appear subtly removed from reality, slightly enhanced by color, blur, or traditional fine art techniques.

Unless you’re a photographer, the word ‘bokeh’ might be a new one for you. It’s a Japanese term for the blurred, out-of-focus effect used in photographs, often resembling ethereal dots of color and light. Technical jargon aside, I think we can all agree it’s rad, and makes for the perfect marriage of photography and abstract textile design.

The Rose Bowl flea market in Pasadena might just be one of the most amazing places on Earth. I always have a hard time committing to a purchase only because the urge to buy is so strong. Does that even make sense? Plus, if I weigh myself down with too much awesome loot I’ll surely inhibit my ability to snap photos. And that, dear friends, is always my primary agenda when I go to this; to share the beautiful eye candy with all of you out there. Be sure to come back next week for the vintage textiles edition!

In the spirit of the day, here are a few images tracking the springtime progress of our little rooftop garden. I love using my macro lens to explore all of the tiny, colorful details that each plant has tucked away. This is the first time our grapevine has ever flowered, we’re really hoping to get some juicy grapes later this year! I can take no credit, though, my husband has the only green thumbs in this household. He does the gardening, I just take the pictures.
